World-Renowned Educational Psychologist Trains Local School Teachers

WEST JORDAN – As students across Utah prepare to go back to school, dedicated teachers are already working on lesson plans and strategies to best teach our children. Tuesday, August 11th through Wednesday, August 12th, Ascent Academies of Utah and North Star Academy, public charter schools located in West Jordan, Farmington, Lehi, and Bluffdale, will be holding a professional development conference on gifted education specifically focused on the Schoolwide Enrichment Model.

The professional development training will be held in conjunction with educators from the Neag Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development at the University of Connecticut, which has distinguished itself as one of the world’s most definitive institutes on gifted education. Dr. Joseph Renzulli, the creator of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model, is an educational psychologist who is widely known for his contributions to understanding “giftedness” and will be leading the sessions along with some of his colleagues.

The Executive Director of Ascent Academies, Wade Glathar, shared, “We are incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Renzulli and his staff train our faculty members. This opportunity will allow our teachers to obtain a greater knowledge base on how to provide students with an advanced curriculum that focuses on student engagement, academic enrichment, and creative productivity that isn’t offered at your typical public school.”

The training will take place at Ascent Academy West Jordan and will strengthen and develop the talents of approximately fifty teachers who utilize the Schoolwide Enrichment Model as part of the educational model offered at both Ascent Academies and North Star charter schools.
