Hi I’m Mr. Ransom. This will be my 7th year as the Social Studies teacher at Ascent Academies Lehi. I teach Geography, World History, U.S. History, and Utah Studies. I have a B.A. in Social Studies education with a Secondary focus from Western Governors University and a Social Studies Composite endorsement from the Utah State Board of Education. I am also currently pursuing a Masters of Education in Instructional Design from WGU as well.
As a Lehi resident I am privileged to have the opportunity to work with local youth to support their growth as they become young adults and learn to be responsible citizens. I am passionate about history and its influence on the world we live in today and the world our children will inherit tomorrow.
My wife Julie and I were both born and raised in Seattle, Washington. We have been married for 21 years. We have lived in Lehi for 15 years. I have five children ranging in age from 6 to 19, and a 4 month old grand-daughter. We enjoy most hobbies together as a family. We love the outdoors, which is a big part of why we love Utah. We like to boat, hike, bike, garden, and play/watch all kinds of sports. On Fall Saturdays and Sundays you can find us cheering on the Utes and the Seattle Seahawks respectively. You can also regularly find us at a soccer match watching one of our girls play.
My teaching philosophy is simple: Students learn by doing. They aren’t sponges meant to absorb trivial facts and dates. They are scholars employed in the task of critical thinking and creative problem solving.
My advice to students is practrice mutual respect, diligent persistence, and put forth consistent effort, then you can do anything you want to in life. If you embrace these principles success will be achieved.
The Ascent Academy junior high staff operate as a team and our highest priority is the health and safety of the students. I am fortunate to be a part of this team and I am excited for a great school year.
