I am delighted to continue to lead the special education department at Ascent Academy – Lehi! I was previously an assistant principal and school psychologist at a K-9 charter school in the Salt Lake Valley. I am originally from Lakewood, New York (a small town near Buffalo) and graduated from the State University of New York College at Geneseo with a degree in psychology in 2009. There, I developed a passion for applying psychology to education. I received a master’s degree in school psychology from Alfred University in 2011 in order to pursue this passion. My graduate program focused on using assessments and interventions to meet the academic and behavioral needs of all students. I became a Nationally Certified School Psychologist in the summer of 2012. Before moving to Utah, I was a school psychologist at a rural school district in Western New York where I worked with students in preschool through 12th grade. I also have experience teaching leadership and communication skills at the R.O.P.E.S. course at the University of Utah.

I enjoy learning new things about education and psychology in my spare time. I also love road cycling, hiking, mountain biking, playing tennis, and spending time with friends and family. I look forward to every day of working with the AAU students!

My name is Carol Lee Ruud – don’t worry I am not rude.  I was born in Phoenix, Arizona and attended Arizona State University receiving a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.  I wanted to be an FBI Agent.  After getting married March 1990 and graduating 9 months later, I began my career as a legal technician for the Department of Justice being assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration.  A few years later I decided to resign and be a stay-at-home mom.   I have four children who I love dearly.  I needed to go back to work a few years later and started working as a social worker which led me to Special Education.  I love working in the school setting and getting to know the students.

I love to sing, dance and exercise (running mostly).  I am an avid reader and will read most anything but particularly love Science Fiction/Fantasy.  My favorite food is ice-cream and one of my favorite quotes is “bloom where you are planted”.  I look forward to working at Ascent Academy-Lehi this next year and getting to know everyone.

Speech and Language Pathologist

I love working with the students and parents at Ascent Academies. As an SLP, I have worked in many different settings: hospital, rehabilitation, treatment centers, nursing facilities, home health, early intervention, preschool, elementary, middle, and high schools. I have also worked in public, private, and charter school settings. I graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Communicative Disorders/Speech Language Pathology. I became a Speech Language Pathologist because I want to help students with difficulties improve their ability to successfully communicate with others. I love helping students realize their potential, make changes and then succeed beyond what they thought was possible.
My husband and I are the parents of 5 boys and a girl. I thoroughly enjoy spending my free time with my family. I love traveling, the outdoors and outdoor activities including golf, boating and most sports.
I am happy to be with Ascent Academies-Lehi for another great year.

I grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and have lived in Utah for five years while attending school.
I strive to have a positive impact on others and to always be optimistic myself.

While I was in high school, one of my close family members had a stroke, and immediately lost the ability to speak. As I watched my family member go through various speech treatments, and as I interacted with the speech professionals, I was inspired to help others with their speech disabilities. I focused my collegiate studies in that field, earning an Associates of General Sciences from Weber State University, and a Bachelors of Communication Disorders degree from Brigham Young University. I plan to get my master’s degree in Communication Disorders within a few years.

I spent two summers as a counselor at a summer day camp for kids. I was in charge of planning activities and ensuring the happiness and entertainment of 30-50 kids, ranging from 5 to 12 years old. I was in charge of meals and crafts, and loved being with the children.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, being outside, kayaking, hiking, fishing, enjoying nature, and seeing new movies in the theatres.

I am excited to join the Ascent Academy team, and to help children succeed in developing positive speech habits while supporting a healthy learning atmosphere.

I was raised in a military family (Air Force). I moved ten times by the time I was in the tenth grade. The longest I've ever lived in one house was three years. I lived and experienced many different areas of the United States and world including California, Colorado, Azore Islands (Portugal), Texas, Utah, Florida, Alaska, and Arkansas. Some of my favorite memories are of my junior high years in the beautiful land of Alaska. My father was from San Diego, California and that was where my parents chose to settle after retiring from the Air Force. San Diego is where I went to high school and also eventually met my husband, Phil. I attended BYU and studied Elementary Education.  I have worked as an assistant in Special Education for eight years. Special education is where my heart is. I am excited to join the Special Education team at Ascent Academy Utah!

I have four amazing children and three brilliant grandchildren with two on the way! I enjoys reading, gardening, decorating, and crafting. My favorite time is time spent with my family and taking road trips with my husband.

Most important is that I’m a Mom to 6 wonderful adults, who have families of their own. My husband, of 50 years, is a CPA and has been involved in developing many Resorts, so we’ve lived all over the west Coast.

I’ve always volunteered in the children’s schools and when the youngest was in Middle School, I was hired to work in Special Ed department in Cave Creek, AZ. I also was an aid at a Head Start department of an Elementary School in Edwards, CO.

In Bend, Oregon they have a wonderful program with the Parks and Recreation Dept. for before and after school and a summer program for all the youth that I participated in, while also subbing for the Special Education department in Bend’s school district.

While in Arizona, I heard of a need in their before and after school program and was hired for that. Then we moved to Utah.

As you can see, I love working with the youth and have volunteered for the Boy Scouts and many of their organizations.

I’m looking forward to be of any assistance I can in this school and getting to know the faculty and children.

I have a B.S. from the University of Utah in Special Education and love, love, love working with the students at Ascent.

My husband and I are Utah natives and we have two boys. As a family we enjoy traveling, hiking and doing anything as a family.

I love the quote by Eleanor Roosevelt that says “Do one thing every day that scares you.”
I try to encourage this same thing to the students at Ascent Academy, to branch out of their comfort zone and to try new things.

My childhood was spent in New Jersey. So if you detect a slight accent that is why.
My greatest joy is being the mother of 7 children. I like being in the outdoors. Although I enjoy hiking, it is quite limited now.
For the past 11 years I have been working at charter schools as a teacher aide and special ed aide. Also I have volunteered as a reading tutor at several city libraries.
I enjoy working as a team and with students to provide the most benefit for all.  I am excited to work at Ascent Academy and be part of this team.

I was born in American Fork, Utah and grew up in Utah County during my elementary years. When I was about eleven years old my family and I moved to San Antonio, Texas. I lived there for about five years and eventually moved back to Lehi, Utah. In my free time I love to take pictures, do crafts, and listen to music. I also enjoy going up to the canyon to camp or go four-wheeling with my family. For as long as I can remember, I have always made it an importance in my life to help anyone in need. It brings me such joy to be a positive impact on the lives of everyone I meet.

Hey Everyone! My name is Stacey Thompson. I am originally from Ft. Lauderdale, FL and moved out here to attend Brigham Young University. I happened to be an underdog who was often told I couldn't cut it, so I stubbornly dug my heels in and managed to make it onto the Dean's List in the School of Music, get invited to sing with the BYU Women's Choir, perform as a member of the BYU Ballroom Dance team and I received a Bachelor's of Music with a focus on Songwriting and Piano. As a result of these experiences I have developed a love for being a teacher and advocate to the many students whose star is just a little bit out of reach but never so far it can't be taken. Speaking of shining stars, I have a daughter and two sons who are the love of my life. Thanks to my son who was born with dwarfism, I've been given many wonderful opportunities to work with children struggling with disabilities through the Little People of America Organization and through Primary Children's/Shriners Hospital. I feel I can relate to them in part due to my own experiences with childhood Leukemia. As far as hobbies go, I love to write, mostly through blogging. I am horrible at sports, but I try to make up for it with my crafty skills. I also enjoy Photography and teaching Piano lessons, and...dying my hair. But more than anything, I am so grateful to be a part of the team at Ascent Academy and work with such amazing students. 🙂

Hello, my name is Heidi Campbell. I have three children and two of them go to Ascent. My husband was medically retired from the Army a little over three years ago, which is when we came back to Utah. We lived in Germany for 6 years and both my youngest children were born there. During that time, my husband deployed to Iraq twice and Afghanistan once. I finished my Bachelor’s and then my Master’s degrees online while we were stationed all over the place. My undergrad is in English and History and I have an MFA in Creative Writing. I am happy to be at Ascent and to be making the transition from stay-home-student-mom, to working at a school where I hope to make a difference.
